Interested in helping with the kingdom work we are doing?

Jo Gower shares with us an inspiring article about prayer as relates to marriage repair.  Read the article HERE.

Here is an article that encourages us to pray in a different way--about not praying for escape, but rather pray in a Kingdom way. We hope this can encourage us as a church to pray more Kingdom prayers.

“HEAVEN-LIVING on EARTH”
Carolyn “Jo” Gower
In the Garden of Eden, before Adam and Eve sinned, everything was perfect. Their walks with God were full of joy, communication was easy.

But after Adam and Eve sinned, God had to “close” the Garden of Eden so to speak. No longer would life be easy.  At that time the first couple on earth began living on earth, in a broken life. Today we live on earth, that broken earth, but my hope comes alive every time I think of Jesus teaching what and how to pray. (Matthew 6:9-15 NIV).

The part that touches me deeply is “thy will be done on EARTH as it is in HEAVEN “.  In heaven there are no problems communicating, no illness, no injustice, no discouragement.  Jesus himself is teaching us to call “heaven living”, down to our “earth- broken living”.

DOWNTOWN CHURCH OF CHRIST Emphasizes PRAYER

we will devote ourselves to prayer and ministry of the word

The Bible and Prayer…

Most people assume that the Bible mentions prayer, even teaches about prayer. But many don’t realize how often the Scriptures deal with this magnificent subject.

Dr. Herbert Lockyer’s book, “All the Prayers of the Bible,” says there are 650 prayers in the Bible and 450 recorded answers.  In addition to that, the Bible teaches on prayer and mentions it in several locations; the total comes to about 850 references to prayer in Scripture.

The gospel accounts mention Jesus’ prayer life 15 times; Jesus taught at least 10 major lessons on prayer during his earthly ministry.

The book of Acts mentions prayer 39 times in only 28 chapters.

The apostle Paul started each of his major letters to the churches with a section on prayer.

the Bible EMPHASIZES prayer…shouldn’t we?

Vision: To release the power of prayer within Christians for the purpose of evangelizing the world for Christ.

Mission: Prayer is giving focus to the work of Christ’ Bride, the church. Our mission is to pray first, before decisions are made, as the disciples did so long ago. But you, will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:8 NIV

“As for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the LORD by failing to pray for you. And I will teach you the way that is good and right. But be sure to fear the LORD and serve him faithfully with all your heart; consider what great things he has done for you.” I Samuel 12:23-24 NIV
