Downtown Church
our vision is to be the
W.O.R.D. Made Flesh
commit. obey. reach out. encourage.
c.o.r.e groups
C.O.R.E. groups are central to our Youth Ministry. During the school year, our youth group is broken out into C.O.R.E. groups (commit, obey, reach-out, encourage). There are about 20-30 students of the same gender in 9th-12th grade with 3-4 adult volunteers serving as C.O.R.E. Leaders in each group. The Jr. High boys and the Jr. High girls act as their own groups. High school C.O.R.E. groups meet weekly on Wednesday evenings and at additional times determined each year by each group. They also plan special activities such as weekend trips, parties, and service projects. Adult C.O.R.E. leaders organize these meetings and trips.
making an impact
College students serve with our C.O.R.E. groups during the school year as College Peers. College volunteers are placed within specific C.O.R.E. groups to serve as an older peer. They are a participant in the group. They offer an example, friendship, and another more mature, Christ-like voice to the teens. College Peers have the unique advantage of not being responsible for the group, but getting to spend all their energy & effort investing into teens. Many Downtown teens say their favorite memories from Youth Group came from their C.O.R.E. groups and their College Peers.
Participation as a College Peer qualifies for a Theological Studies internship, and helps prepare students for life-long ministry.
