What is the mission of the Downtown church?

Mission is an important word. It means that we are not here just by happenstance, but that we have a purpose; that we are a part of something larger than ourselves.

We believe that the mission to which God has called us is

To search for the lost, bring back the strays, bind up the injured, and strengthen the weak.

This mission, taken from Ezekiel 34:16, suggests that we are not here just to have a good time or to get what we can for ourselves. We are committed to letting God use us to impact our community in ways that are meaningful.

Our Shepherds have drafted a document that supports our mission called Vision 2010. In it, seven visions for our church family are identified with specific goals attached to each one. These are the seven vision statements:

• We will be a church that is outwardly focused at its spiritual core.
• We will be recognized in the community as a place where all are welcome, regardless of one’s spiritual, emotional or physical needs.
• We will be a church united in purpose and goals.
• We will have spiritually healthy relationships.
• We will have healthy ministry systems.
• We will steward our resources to carry out the goals of the mission statement.
